Stay away from the hype

I see it. I know you see it. I feel it and you likely feel it also. The massive stress of what is changing our daily lives. Massive change being asked of all of us.

On social media in less than a week, I've seen a shift right back to old habits in how we are communicating with each other. Just a week ago we were supporting and encouraging each other through this period.  Now, we are telling each other what we think everyone should be doing, or, not doing. I am reading posts where people are berating others for going outside......seriously, we are yelling at each other when someone chooses to go outside. Crazy times my friends, crazy times.

Many of us have become infectious disease experts throwing up a chart and our interpretation of what it means. The reality is we can't take one piece of this highly complex situation and claim it to be the truth for all things. The information most of you are showing is not the whole picture, not even close.

It would be helpful for you to consider your source. What do I mean?  Well, where did you get the information you feel the need to share with others?  Is your source reputable? Meaning, is it a neutral entity with nothing to gain by giving out the information? Unreliable sources are nearly all news agencies.  They are usually only sharing small snippets of a whole report.   Only the pieces that will get your attention. The pieces they believe will get the most clicks or hits on a webpage.  Believe it or not, your news feed is fed with the things you have liked or shared.....thus, if you are sharing crappy info, your feed will give you more crappy info.

What IS a reliable source.  The CDC is a mostly reliable source.  What you say?  How can I say mostly? Well, they are a government entity for one. I am not a conspiracy theorist with what I am about to say......but the reality is the info we get from the government, especially right now, is being filtered through many channels before we get it.  The brief snippet of info we get in a daily report still doesn't tell the whole story.  The ONE snapshot in time does little to tell us everything that is involved in the data we are viewing. The government can either want to get us worried, or, they can decided that they want to calm us down.  They can do this by the information they give us.  Thus, the information we get is mostly reliable.

I think the main point I want to make with this writing is for you to think before you post.  Consider your source, consider the impact of your messaging, consider if it's needed at all.  We are all being inundated with massive information in our lives right now from all ways.  Consider that not everything you hear is fact.

Be kind to each other.  If nothing else, try that. For one day, delete it before you post it.  For one day, take a social media break.  For one day, just post puppy pictures.  For one day, just don't.....just don't.
