The morning routine

Every day, without fail, I follow the morning routine and here they are for you to see.  Specific morning habits to start my day, every day, without fail:

1.  I get up.  I get up at nearly the same time everyday. For me it is between 5:30-6.  Every day, without fail, I get up at the same time, seven days a week.  Our bodies want this. If you are going to bed at different times and then getting up at different times please don't wonder why you feel tired or have unknown stress.....it is known and this is why.   I have found by getting up at the same time every day I have naturally started going to bed at the same time every day.   It takes time and practice, you can do it. Get up at the same time, every day.

2. I make my bed. Without fail, every day, I make the bed. It's a little bit harder to get back into a made bed is the theory behind this. When I was in deep depression I would stay in bed....only getting up to go to the bathroom or eat something, and, right back to bed. Now, I get up, and, make the bed. There is also a sense of doing something good first thing. It's nice to have a made bed. I make my bed, every day, without fail.

3. I open the blinds and curtains. Each and every day, I open all the blinds and curtains. I know, you will likely resist this one. But, I don't. I do it everyday. 365 days a year I let the morning light in. If it is still dark, I still open all the blinds and curtains.  I used to never do this, day or night. I didn't want to see the outside world. I have found that opening the house up every day has it's own positive effects. I can see outside and it encourages me to get outside. If you are thinking "I don't want people seeing in my house"....don't worry, people aren't that worried about you.....really, they aren't. Every day, without fail, I open the blinds and curtains.

3. I go on a morning walk.  Without fail, every day of the year, I go on a morning walk. This started because I have a German Shepherd.  Those that know the breed know they NEED exercise, a lot of it. With this, I developed this habit that stands to this very day. Cheba is now 12 and the morning walk is slower, but, it still happens without fail.  No matter the weather, or my mood, I go on the walk.  This, my friends, will work wonders for a crappy morning attitude. I have had mornings where I have started the walk saying "when I get back I am going back to bed".  I can tell you that about four blocks into this mindset shifts. I think, "well, maybe I won't go back to bed, maybe I will do the day". A few more blocks into it I am back on track and ready to take on the day. I do my best thinking on the morning walk. It is just under a mile, but, that short distance works it's magic and I do it every day. Every day, without fail, I go on the morning walk.

4. I drink water every morning. This might seem small, but actually, it is massive. Every morning, I drink a full glass of water.  Yes, I have coffee, that's vital, but, in addition I drink water.  Our bodies NEED water in the morning. You will thank me for this one if you start doing it regularly. Water is the magical elixir that gives our body vitally important replenishment after a nights rest. I have now created the habit of having water with me 24/7. It's funny how I have decreased drinking pop and coffee, and even stopped drinking energy drinks all together by starting this habit.  I drink a glass of water, every morning without fail.

5. Exercise/writing/reading. Everyday, without hesitation, I either write, read, or do some form of exercise without fail. Exercise can be in the form of a good stretching routine by itself, or, before or after a run. It can be a yoga or meditation routine. I mix it up regularly.  I also either write or read every day.  For me I love writing so that happens a lot. Or, I switch it up and read from something I like that will get me in a good mindset to start the day. Every day, without fail, it's either exercise, writing, or reading.

That might seem a lot to do every morning, I get it.  Pick one or two and start them today.  No time is better than right now. I get up a minimum of two hours before I start my day so I can do all of them.  That's me, and, it's happened over time.  There is no magic to doing this.....none.  It just takes a willingness to switch up your mornings.  Likely will mean getting up a bit earlier, which will mean, going to bed a little earlier. It takes 21 to 28 days to develop a habit so be easy on yourself.  You will get there.

I promise you this. You will get out of this what you put into it. Start today!
