I started with my sister buying me a pair of shoes
In the mid 90's my sister bought me a pair of shoes. Everything I owned fit in a small hall closet in her home....Everything. I was 29 and was at a point in my life when really, the only way I had to go was up.
But, I didn't believe that inside. I had massive doubt about where I could go even if up were the only way. Fortunately for me I was introduced to a motivational speaker's lessons on how to change my thinking from a negative mindset to a positive mindset. The picture below is my very first positive affirmation. Note that I did not have a job, and felt like I was unemployable, and, I did not feel good about myself at all. Bob Moawad's teachings said to write an affirmation as if I had already achieved what I wanted.
I can tell you, when I first heard this, I thought it was crazy. Yet, I was in a space and time in my life where I was willing to try anything. I truly had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I was told to put this affirmation where I would see it everyday. I was then told to start taking small steps toward making that affirmation a reality. Low and behold, within weeks I had a job, and not long after that I DID start feeling good about myself. Writing an affirmation is just one step in the whole process. I learned to take small steps everyday toward what I had written for my affirmation. It works, it really does.
I am a realist in many ways. I think in this area it can help. Many times we think the next great thing is going to help us. The latest diet craze, or miracle medicine, or get rich scheme that sounds to good to be true....The reality is they usually are. The success I have in my life today is not because of any of that. It is because I have been willing to shift my mind set from a "can't do" to a "can do" attitude. It takes work and effort to do this. I learned that it takes 21 to 28 days to change habits. If I put concerted effort into changing a negative mindset to a positive mindset for a minimum of 21 to 28 days I will see results. I don't believe there is any quick fix in this area. It takes time and effort.
You DO have the ability to achieve your goals and dreams. I, and many others just like me, are living proof. I am just your average guy living in the world. The success I have has been through being willing to always keep pushing forward. One of my sayings is "I have heard some no's along the way". I've heard no more times than I have heard yes. I don't let it stop me....I keep moving forward. You can do the same.
