Get involved!
I believe in not just talking about change, but, doing what I can to make change. One of my favorite all time quotes hangs in our house, and is in the picture below. It is a constant reminder for me to not sit idle, but, to get into action.
Just last night Katrina and I helped at an event to raise funds for a local organization (The Gretchen Weller Foundation) that helps meet the needs of someone with a cancer diagnosis. By doing this work I find that it helps in many ways. One, I connect with people I may not normally connect with in my daily life; Two, I get to do something for people I may never meet, but, will have a direct effect on improving their life; and three, at an event like last nights, it is fun! It gets me out of the normal routine and puts me out in the community.
Community involvement, for me, wasn't something I always did. It was through my own life changes, and being helped by others in the community, that it caused me to want to do the same. I remember hearing somewhere along the way to "get busy". Thus, this is what I do. My only regret is that I didn't start giving back much earlier in my life.
My life is one that I am grateful for every day. To ensure I stay in this mindset I stay busy doing my part to make our community amazing by volunteering my time. I truly believe that any change that is needed in a society starts on the community level. Through many small efforts big change takes place. We each have to do our part, and when we do, the results are what we had last night. A packed house and thousands raised to support community members!
So, I say to you, as I keep saying to myself, get busy and get involved!
