I don't have to do much, but I GET to do a lot
In a life past I used to think completely different about life. I once thought things were always happening to me and in many cases against me. I felt like most of the things I did in my life I had to do and it always felt like a struggle.
Years ago now I shifted my mindset to a simple mantra of.....I don't HAVE to do much....rather, I GET to do a lot. This came from teachings by a man named Bob Moawad and later his son Trevor Moawad who were motivational speakers who taught that I DO have a say in my life trajectory and I CAN make a choice each day on what attitude I bring to the table when it comes to my life.
Each day I wake is a new day. A new day to thrive. A new day to work toward my goals. A new day to capitalize on the fact that I am alive another day.
Bob Moawad taught about the fact that I have a choice in my attitude about my life and life around me. I can choose in a given day to have the right attitude. He had a pin that simply said "attitude" and he wore it on his right side of his jacket lapel each day reminding him of his choice to have the right attitude which is the "can do" attitude.
Each day I GET to do all the things in front of me. Each day I GET to thrive and move forward in my life. Each day I GET to work through any problem I might face.
Bob Moawad taught me that I can believe in myself inspite of my past or even my current state of being. He taught me that I can rise above a given problem and continue to move forward. He taught me that I can teach myself new things even if I have doubt. He taught me to use positive affirmations and positive thinking to shift my brain from negative to positive thinking and behavior.
Each day is another day to try again. Each day is something to be grateful for. Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow toward that which I strive to work for and learn about. Each day I can choose to grow and learn.
I later started following Bob Moawad's son Trevor Moawad who carried on his late dad's teachings through his work with his technique and writings about using neutral thinking to get ahead and to work toward our goals. Trevor's book "It Takes What it Takes" talks about the importance of training your brain to think, at minimum neutrally and for sure not negative. He wrote about the need for use to tell ourselves that we should expect to have success if we are putting in the work. We can use our past successes and who we achieved them to expect that it will happen again.
Each day if I put in effort I can expect positive results toward my goals. Each day, even if I have a setback, I can continue to work toward my goals knowing setbacks are temporary. Each day I think about the work I have done to this point and I continue to work forward.
Trevor had the belief that we can put in effort and create habits that can help alleviate anxiety we might have when we have doubt. Trevor taught that we need to create habits and behaviors to negate negative thinking that might keep us from moving toward our goals. Trevor's teachings were much like his father's when it came to negative thinking. Trevor talked about knowing negative thinking might be there, but taught that we could negate it with healthy habits and doing daily work toward our goals.
Bob and Trevor are no longer with us. Bob passed in 2007 after a several year battle with cancer. His son Trevor passed in 2021, after his own battle with cancer. Both men left strong legacies through their life long work helping people improve their lives.
